errands

Mowed the lawn (the neighbors must love me!) and went to the bank, then to cingular and changed my cellphone number...no more Las Vegas, that was the last bit. I'm a central Pennsylvanian now!
Filling in for this shift during Weekend America, then off to NYC. Can't wait for some culture, cold sesame noodles, and great architecture! And the NY Times in NY.
Woohoo.

Weekend

Got through a ton of automation spots, my first for WITF. I'm also filling in for Weekend America tomorrow, before I go into NYC.
I'll get to see my friend Thomas Leander, and meet his wife. Thomas is from Germany and is one of the truly great pianists that I've ever heard. I also get to "uben mein Deutsch" - we speak half English/half German and always laugh.
I also will get to meet Kirsten Agresta, whom I'm a big fan - she's going to play in Las Vegas for the chamber music society. We've corresponded over 2 or 3 years, and talked on the phone, but it's always nice to actually meet someone in person.
Recently I've met an artist manager who I worked with on and off for a few years, AND a NPR producer that was a friend of a friend, who I had also emailed, phoned, and finally got to meet.
All of this a result of being out east.
I love it here.
Still waiting to hear from Daron Hagen and John Corigliano, if their schedules allow me to catch up with them...if not, I'll be back to NYC soon.

New Worlds*

Today I pick up the phone and Stephen Gunzenhauser is on the other end.
I'm been a fan of his for quite a while, and only a few weeks ago did I find out he worked in the area.
Now as part of my gig I get to interview him and catch concerts.
Awesome.
I think the show I'm supposed to produce will use the Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra as a theme. Everyone seems to like themes around here. So Britten will be the glue that holds it together.
:)

More soon!

*The title comes from the fact I saw the Philadelphia Orchestra Tuesday night play Dvorak's Ninth (from the new world)...an I'm still thinking about the wonderful things...and interesting events.

Moved in

It's been almost a month now and I love Harrisburg. I love my job. The staff is a real joy to work with. My house rocks!

Last night I caught the Philadelphia Orchestra with James and Jeanne Galway, conducted by Joann Falletta.
It was lovely. Joann remembered me from years ago, from an interview we did on KMUW in Wichita.
Now for the small world part...Joann's associate concertmaster in Buffalo, is Amy Glidden, who studied with Nancy Luttrell at Wichita State...and we played in youth symphony together. (I was in the back of the section, she the concertmaster!)
More tales soon, I'm in NYC this weekend to see a friend.
